Mama Letty’s Korean Adventure: Day 9

Day 9: went to FC Seoul vs Busan! It was pretty fun. The first half was deathly boring and to make it worst Busan scored. BUT the second half got going and FC Seoul made a come-back with 2 goals. I’ve yet to attend a game that we lost. I’m good luck like that! Final score 2-1 FC Seoul!

She likes sports and she don't care who knows.

Day 13: Still going strong! This was at tonight’s FC Seoul match against Chunnam. The game was pretty slow and terrible until the very end, during stoppage time, Mauricio Molina scored within the final seconds. 1-0 victory, amazing. Goals like that are what makes soccer the best sport in the world. Here’s the crowd, they stood behind loyal and true like any good fan.

The Crowd Roars.

South Korea vs Honduras International Friendly

inside the stadium

Chad and I went to the South Korea vs Honduras soccer game last minute last Friday. We went with Chad’s co-teacher friends and it was a lot of fun. There was more food to buy this time and I was very excited about that! We also brought a lot of food with us too this time, we learned from the last game we went to that stadium food and drinks are very limited. They were checking bags at the gate, no outside alcohol, but Ciara snuck in some soju in her coat, awesome. It was stupidly cold too and it’s almost April! It was a fun game, Korea won 4-0!  The best part was tickets were so cheap and this was for an international friendly match. It only cost 20,000 won which is a little less than 20 bucks! This will be the last Korea match until August so we were really happy we went!

KOREA FIGHTING!!

K-League Championship

Fighting! FC Seoul!

“On Sunday, despite near- zero-degree weather, over 56,000 fans turned up at the Seoul World Cup stadium, setting a record for FC Seoul’s home attendance of more than 546,000 people in the 2010 season.” – Korea Herald

It’s cool to think we were one of those 56,000 fans! Chad, some co-teacher friends, and myself went to the K-League Championship on Sunday. We cheered for FC Seoul cause they’re the home team here and they were the underdog (I think). Chad and I have a soft spot for the underdogs. The game wasn’t as thrilling as most soccer matches, pretty sloppy at times but the spectacle of the event was cool. There was plenty of fireworks when a goal was scored and at the ending trophy ceremony. And it was at the World Cup Stadium which was pretty cool. Surprising to think that this stadium only seats 8,000 more than Boone Pickens Stadium. “The Boone” seats 60,218 while Seoul’s World Cup Stadium seats 68,476.

The events outside the stadium were cool, outdoor concert, tons of food and souvenir vendors and moon jumps and rock walls for kids.

The biggest let down was the food. This was the first sporting event I’d ever been to where you buy your food outside and bring it into the stadium. All they had to buy in the stadium was hot chocolate, hotdog things on a stick, dried squid and beer. So if you don’t like dried squid or beer you could stand in a line about a kilometer long and get a hotdog thing. Yeah no thanks. Next time I’m packing a lunch!

WORLD CUP: US vs England!

Red White & Blue

What an AMAZING DAY IN FOOTBALL!!!! Holy Crap!

South Korea beats Greece 2-0 and US tied England 1-1. Tim Howard you are my hero, I love him. Clint Dempsey you are beautiful and Robert Green- sucks to be you. If you watched the game I’m sure your heart stopped a few times like it did mine. I hope some, if not most, people understand the importance of this game. Here is just a quick run down of the stats:

In the 1950 World Cup, the United States won 1–0 against England in what is widely considered one of the greatest upsets in football history, England having recently beaten the rest of Europe 6–1 in an exhibition match. This is the one time that the US beat England in World Cup play. And has history would have it US has always lost when England scores first, not this time. Also the last time US won against England was 1993 in a friendly match. People didn’t except US to win or even tied. A tied is as good as a win!! If our team goes far this World Cup maybe it will change the mind of those would don’t care about US soccer. Maybe it will become as important as it is everywhere else in the world!!! Hopefully… someday…

If you missed the game don’t miss the next US vs Slovenia June 18 on ESPN. US has a great chance this year so support your team!!

the 11 Starters and the rest of the US Team!!!

Aside from the US team I’ll be watching and cheering on South Korea, Germany and Mexico. And watching and hoping France gets it’s ass whooped every game they play, stupid cheaters!! 😐 And I’ll also be wishing Ireland could have gone (they should have) and the Philippines (come on guys get your stuff together!!) I’ll be missing Kasey Keller’s shiny-brilliant-talented head this year as goalkeeper… but Tim Howard is my new shiny favorite!! OH AND Landon Donovan… if Chad and I have a son we’re naming him after Landon Donovan so he’ll be destined for excellence!

Scores for today:

South Africa and Mexico tied 1-1
France and Uruguay tied 0-0

So go watch some amazing soccer!
