31 Photos in 31 Days: Day 28

Day 28: Took Kyle to his first cat cafe. I love cat cafes. This little guy slept in this basket the whole time. When you have cat cafes around everyday is Caturday. This cat cafe is close to my place in Donam.

Day 22: It’s Caturday! Here is “KittyFace” my kitty pillow. It’s been a long day…. Good night!

OH Shoes, it’s Caturday.

So why can’t we have nice things like this in America… because sometimes America is lame that’s why. I bought two pairs of these shoes so I could have a brand new pair when I go home. That’s planning ahead. I love the cute amazing things you can buy in Korea. I’m gonna horde these awesome things and teach people about cuteness when I return. I will be a messiah of adorable!!

In Seoul there are several places called “Cat Cafes.” No they don’t serve cat. It’s a place where you buy a drink and get to hang out with cats. It’s like the dog cafe I wrote about a few months age. We found a place in Gangnam that was a great cat cafe. The peach tea was really good and everything was better priced than the dog cafe. You pay 8,000 won (about 8 bucks) for a drink and you get to chill with the cool cats. If you want to order another drink then it’s only 3,000. They have kitty treats that only cost 2,000 and all the kitty’s like those. But there is an orange cat that you can’t feed treats too. When you walk in, you have to change your shoes to these little house slippers and use hand sanitizer before entering the cafe. Like the dog cafe there are rules:

You can’t pick up or hugs the cats (gotta love a cat on their terms)
you can’t wake sleeping cats
No outside food for them
No pulling tails or being rough
OH and no flash-photography please!

The place we went to was great, I highly recommend it. It’s right outside Gangnam Station (Line 2) exit 6. As you leave exit 6 you turn left down a little alley and once you reach a small street it’s on the 4th floor of a large building in front of you. There is a 7-11 on the first floor. I also know of cat cafe’s in Myong-dong and Donam-dong.

Happy Caturday!

Pepper-Roo, I Love You

So Chad and I finally got all of Pepper’s documents to bring him to South Korea! However we didn’t bring him, due to the heat. They won’t fly animals if it’s over a certain temperature. It’s for their safety. I would have had to wait and most likely miss my flight to Korea and be really delayed. I was heartbroken that I couldn’t bring him but he’s going to provide my mom company. Which is really great cause Pepper loves Mama and Mama loves Pepper.

So after getting an official health check for him and his rabies certificate, at the Oklahoma State University Vet Hospital and going to the USDA we left him at home in Enid. It’s better this way for now. Hopefully once we get some vacation time we can come home and bring him.

I Choose You Pepper-Roo!

Chad's work-out buddyPepper Jamie PacMan Ringwald-Swanson is my cat. He was a stray cat, most likely abandoned by some college student after flunking out or graduating. One night he came around my place in Stillwater and Pepper got yellow paint all over him after brushing against my freshly painted Ms. PacMan Halloween costume.

After a hotdog and a can of tuna he was mine. Pepper is a great cat and very smart and surprisingly dog like. For the record Chad and I are dog people. My luck with cats is very slim. My first cat Miss Kitty (named after the character in Gunsmoke) was pecked to death by a flock of birds, no joke that’s messed up. My second cat Shasta Cream Soda disappeared only after a few weeks. So luck with cats is not my strong suit. But Pepper has stuck around for a year and 8 months. For about 7 months we thought Pepper was a girl. He’s a boy, sorry I’m no expert in feline genitalia.

So why am I giving you my cat’s life story? Well it comes down to karma, fate, divine intervention whatever you want to call it. Chad and I took Pepper in off the streets right before the cold winter months and have loved and cared for him ever since; we’ve made him a part of our family. But bringing Pepper to Korea with us will be no small task. We need a place that is pet friendly and the original schools that were offered to us (Yeongdeungpo and Gangseo) unfortunately do not offer pet friendly housing. It was a huge bummer because both those districts are awesome college districts, with tons of bars, clubs, and other amazing hangouts. But the HR manager found me a school that did have pet friendly housing and as luck would have it, it’s located close to the famous Daehangno District. And this district is the center of Korean independent and experimental theatre!!!!!

So God/karma/fate all of them works in mysterious ways, Pepper who we thought was going to be a burden to bring over-seas ended up placing me smack dab in the middle of what I want to study the most– Asian theatre! He was a blessing in paint covered cat fur.
